Civil Defence Emergency Response Team (CDERT)
Civil Defense Emergency Response Team (CDERT) was established on March 16, 2006 based on Departmental Instruction No. 1 of 2006 where all State Offices of Civil Defense were ordered to implement the establishment of CDERT teams in Government, Private and Statutory Body agencies and Communities.
Purpose of Establishment
- Help reduce the impact of an emergency or disaster at an early stage. Preparedness for an emergency at an early stage will give “precaution or “preventive measure” that is good for the agency or the concerned party to guarantee the “survival” of their agency.
- The establishment of this CDERT in government agencies, private sector and selected statutory bodies will be able to help the Department carry out its responsibilities more effectively during emergencies or disasters that require Civil Defense services.
- The establishment of CDERT by the Department is in line with the Workers’ Safety and Health Act 1994 and the Factories and Machinery Act 1967 which require all agencies or owners to provide a safe work environment and have a high level of protection from hazards that may cause injury or loss of life while performing services.
- The impact and effects of an emergency, accident or disaster are undoubtedly very distressing and quite difficult to predict and cause losses that are difficult for the individuals, agencies or companies involved to accept. With the emergency and disaster management training provided by APM, it will help workers to respond early thereby reducing property damage and loss of life.
