Coastal Rescue Service

Background

The Coast guard was introduced on July 1, 2003, and is now increasingly popular with beachgoers, especially foreign tourists who enjoy activities in the sea and the beach. With a service like this, visitors to the beach feel safe and confident to bring their families on a picnic by the beach.

However, on December 26, 2004, the Tsunami disaster made the country aware of the need for a Coastal Rescue Team. With the success of the JPAM Coast Guard of Batu Feringghi, Penang, they gave an early warning and ensured that the people on the beach were successfully rescued without any loss of life.
